Laureate 2024 

On December 3rd, 2024, the Elisabeth-Gateff Prize of the Society for Genetics, worth €3,000, was awarded for the best doctoral thesis of 2024 to Dr. Maximilian Stammnitz. The honor took place in the presence of Prof. Dr. Gateff, the GfG President Prof. Dr. Hake and the GfG Vice President Prof. Dr. Braun at JLU Giessen. 
Dr. Stammnitz received the prestigious award for his groundbreaking work on the genetics of transmissible tumors in Tasmanian devils. In his stimulating lecture, Dr. Stammnitz took viewers and listeners on site and virtually on the screens on an exciting journey into the genomic origins of this fascinating and frightening disease and gave new food for thought as to what its biological cause could be. This impressive presentation and the following stimulating discussions that will be remembered by everyone involved for a long time!
