Prof. Dr. Gerhard Braus heads the Department of Molecular Microbiology and Genetics at the Georg-August University in Göttingen. His research group is concerned with the genetics, biochemistry and cell biology of filamentous fungi and yeasts. His research focuses on the control of fungal development and secondary metabolism, post-translational modifications by the ubiquitin family, fungi as human or plant pathogens and as models for neurodegenerative diseases.
Gerhard Braus' teaching focuses on genetics, microbiology and microbial cell biology. Gerhard Braus studied biology and philosophy at the University of Fribourg, obtained his doctorate and habilitated at the ETH Zurich. In 1992 he was Visiting Professor at the Department of Genetics at the University of Georgia in Athens, USA. In 1993 he became Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Erlangen and since 1996 he has been in Göttingen.
